I have been playing the Cigar Box Guitar a lot since I completed it. It is a fun instrument to play. It just begs to play slide guitar, and I found that I didn’t have a proper glass guitar slide. I did have an empty wine bottle so I figured I should just make one.
Using a glass gutter and some tape as a guide, I was able to score the bottle. Then using a combination of heat and ice water, I cut the bottle top off. After some sanding, to smooth out the edges, I had a perfectly useable glass slide.
Not being someone who wants to waste anything, I decided to use the lower half of the bottle to make a drinking glass. I used the same process as the slide to cut the bottle, and sand it smooth. After a good washing, I now have a unique drinking glass as well.
This was a fun project and actually quite simple. Even if you’ve never cut glass before, you too can make something like this.
