Ever since I saw a belt grinder in use, I saw the many uses it could have in the shop. After pricing them, I found that they were quite pricey, so I figured I could make my own. I spent the next year or so scrounging up parts to make one. Every time I came across a scrap or piece of something that looked useful, I set it aside. Once I had what I thought was enough materials piled up, I got to work.
This project was mainly welding, grinding, drilling and tapping to make the frame. I bought a few parts for this build. Mainly the wheels, bearings, and some pulleys. Rather than explaining the whole process here, check out the build video to see the whole process.
My main point I’d like you to take away is, if you want to build something very inexpensively, you can. It just may take some time to track down all the materials you need. You need to be on the lookout everywhere for things. The free section of Craigslist is great. You never know what you’ll find. It sounds kind of crazy, but I’m always watching the things people are throwing away. You know the old saying, “one mans trash, is another mans treasure”. That is absolutely true. Another great place to find awesome stuff, is garage sales. Typically, you can get great deals on things, and dont be afraid to make offers on stuff. Just because people are asking $10 for something, doesn’t mean they wont take $5. You never know until you ask.
Let me know what you think of this project. Thanks for checking it out.
