I need to step up my 45 degree miter game. My current methods of making these cuts, just aren’t cutting it. (pun intended) I decided a miter sled for the table saw was in order.
There isn’t really a whole lot that goes into making one of these sleds. All you need are some hardwood runners for your saws miter slots, a base of some kind, (I used plywood because its stable) and some rails that intersect the blade at exactly 45 degrees. You attach the runners to the base, then attach the rails at a 45 degree angle to the blade. Thats about it. Now, I added some additional support to the rear of the sled to add a little ridgidity to the sled but, its really not necessary as long as you don’t cut to far and chop your sled in half. I opted to leave the wood unfinished, but you certainly could wipe on a coat of oil or some other finish if you wanted to.
Overall, I’m really happy i made this sled. Now miters are sooooo much easier. Its a quick project and one that I would definitely recommend. Its probably the easiest way to cut miters on the table saw. There’s no adjusting the blade angle, just raise the blade and make your cut.
Here’s how I made mine.
