Woodworking tools to build a Guitar Body

Here’s another Q&A video. Previously, I’ve talked about guitar specific tools that are great to have. This time, its a little broader approach. We’re talking about woodworking tools, and what tools I use when building a guitar body.
I break down building a guitar into 4 basic sections. (3 in this video) The first section is Preparing the Blank. Here we’re using a combination of the table saw, planer, jointer, glue and clamps to get a blank ready to be cut out. Its not that hard and doesn’t take that long to prepare.
Next is Rough Shaping and Routing. Here, I’m using the bandsaw to cut out the basic shape. Then I’m using a template bit in my router and routing the shape exact. Now using a combination of a trim router and the drill press, I’ll get all the cavities routed and pilot holes drilled. All of the machine work is done.
Step 3 is the most tedious of all in my opinion. This is all the handwork, and includes using a rasp to cut in the belly cut if necessary and any other contouring and shaping. Of course all of that is followed up by a lot of sanding. Be sure to have plenty of dust masks and sandpaper on hand. You will definitely get an arm workout here.
The last step is finishing. This video doesn’t cover finishing as that can well take up several videos on its own. I’ll save that for another time.
I hope this helps answer some questions that came up from the first Q&A. Of course, if you still have questions, please let me know and I’ll do my best to get them answered for you. Thanks for tuning in.
