Assembling and Testing the Granberg Alaskan Chainsaw Mill | Granberg MK-IV Alaskan Mill

I’ve wanted to get into a little bit of milling for a while now. I finally bit the bullet and ordered up an Alaskan Mill for my chainsaw. The mill that I purchased is made by Granberg. Its their MK-IV, 30″ Alaskan Chainsaw Mill. Along with the mill I grabbed their EZ Rail system for making the first cut on a log.

Right out of the box, everything looks great. Its packaged well and everything was there. (althought for a minute I did think I was missing a piece, turns out I wasn’t) I jumped right in and followed the instructions to get it assembled. I know, who follows the instructions. Anyways, I was able to get it assembled pretty quickly. The instructions were pretty clear and thorough, although there were a couple steps that I had to question. In the end I got it together. I did discover a couple things I wouldn’t mind changing and I mentioned them in the video below. I’m sure the team at Granberg has a reason for making things the way they did. Maybe I’ll change my mind after using this mill for a little while.

Overall, I really like this setup. I’m using a Husqvarna 372XP Chainsaw to run my mill. The saw seems to have plenty of power for this size mill and chainsaw bar. I am really looking forward to getting a lot more use out of this setup. Now I just need to start looking for some nice logs to mill up.

Follow along with me in the video below as I assemble the mill and test it out.
