Replacing a Window Screen

If you have kids or pets, or if you’re like me and a bit clumsy at times, there’s a good chance you’ll end up with a damaged window screen around your house. If and when you do, don’t worry. This is an easy and inexpensive fix. All you’re going to need is some replacement screen, a spline roller tool, and some window screen. (purchase links below) Before you buy the new spline, make sure you measure your spline channel to get the correct size. This can be a little confusing but don’t worry. Measure the thickness of the channel as accurately as you can, then add about .015″ to that dimension and try to find the spline closest to that size. This works well, when replacing the screen with the same exact kind.

Now that you have everything you need, trim a piece of new screen to fit your opening. Make sure to leave some extra all the way around. Starting at one side, begin rolling the spline into place along that edge. Then do the side opposite that. Now the screen should be secured on 2 sides. Now do the other 2 sides. Make sure to keep it tight enough to avoid wrinkles and loose spots. LAstly, just trim off the excess and reinstall your new screen.

This is a simple fix that anyone can do. Here’s the video of the process to help you out. Hayley even makes an appearance in this one. Thanks for stopping by.
