Hand Carving a Giant Wooden Spatula | Or Not.

Have you ever attempted a project only to get into it and find out that it may not go as planned? Thats exactly what happened in this project. I wanted to make another wooden spatula similar to the one I made in an earlier project video. This time, I wanted to use only hand tools to make it. This spatula though, would be much larger than the first and be used for mostly flipping pancakes. After getting into the piece, I found a ton of knots and bark inclusions that started causing me a lot of troubles. I decided that I would probably be better off by choosing a better piece of wood and not continuing with this one. Its like Kenny Rodgers said, “you’ve got to know when to hold em’, and know when to fold em”. I decided I’d be better off to walk away and try again another day.

Don’t be afraid to fail in the shop. Things don’t always go perfect, and that’s why I’m sharing this one with you. We all have our challenges in the shop and we just need to be able to learn from it and move on. I’ll definitely be trying this again some time down the road. I still want a giant wooden spatula. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you get something out of this one.
