They say you can’t have too many clamps. I agree with that until it comes time to store them neatly. I currently have a lot of my clamps stored in a drawer, but thats not ideal for me. They get all stuck together and can be hard to grab the one you really want. I need a better way to keep them organized and quickly accessible.
I decided to use a piece of Live Edge Pine for my new clamp rack. Soft wood is not the strongest choice but the piece I have to use is nice and thick, so that should add to the strength. After cutting the pieces to fit my space, I cut a rabbet along the back where I would glue on the back piece. This was mainly to increase the strength of the glue joint. Next, I laid out, and cut a series of slots about 3/8″ wide, to hold the clamps. I used a couple different spacings to hold different kinds of clamps. Space yours to fit your clamps accordingly. After a little sanding, I glued the 2 pieces together at 90 degrees, and finally applied a couple coats of spray lacquer for the finish.
After attaching the clamp rack to the wall, all that was left to do is load it up. This quick and simple clamp rack is going to make a huge difference for me. Now these clamps are much more organized and easy to get to. I’m happy to have taken the time to build this rack. Take this idea and modify it to suit your needs and space.
