Double sided tape gets used a lot in my workshop. You have seen me use it in many videos, and many of you have asked what tape I’m using. I’ve had this tape for quite a while and all I knew about it was that it was made by 3M. I started getting low on the tape and needed to get some more, but without knowing what type it is its very hard to order more. I set out on a mission to figure out what this tape is.
I started by perusing the 3M website. I quickly determined that they have a ton of options and it wouldn’t be as easy as that. I contacted a specialist at 3M and was able to send them pictures and measurements of my tape. After a bunch of back and forth emails, they gave me a couple of suggestions. One of their suggestions was for a 6mil tape, the other was a 9mil. In case you didn’t know (I didn’t) a mil is one thousands of an inch, so if a tape is 9mil thick, its .009″ A quick measurement of my tape with some calipers confirmed that my tape measures .009″ I ordered a couple rolls of the 9mil tape 3M suggested and I’m happy to report it is the same tape.
I’m now happy to say that the double sided tape I prefer to use is 3M 9579. Its great tape and I highly recommend you try it if you’re looking for some good double sided tape. I’ve added a few links to some different merchants where I found this tape. I hope this is helpful for you.
Thanks for stopping by.
