My friends over at TSPROF, sent over another sharpening system for me to try out. This time we’re checking out the Kadet Nero. About a year ago, I tested the Blitz sharpener from TSPROF. It worked awesome so I am excited to see how this Kadet Nero stacks up against the Blitz.
Right away, this Kadet Nero is much larger than the Blitz. I actually really like the size. The blade clamps are larger and seem to give a better grip on the blade. Not that I ever had an issue with the Blitz, but this just feels sturdier. #technicalterm On the Nero, the blade clamps are adjustable via some knurled thumb screws instead of an allen wrench like the Blitz. This makes it much easier to adjust. The only thing you need an allen wrench for on the Kadet Nero, is to tighten the blade clamp. Everything else uses a thumbscrew. This makes it quick and easy to adjust.
The Kadet Nero has a different mechanism to account for the thickness of the abrasive stones. On the Blitz, you have an indexed knob that has to be clicked a certain number of times. The Kadet is much simpler. Loosen a thumbscrew, insert the abrasive, slide a brass sleeve down until it contacts the stone, tighten the thumbscrew and you’re ready to sharpen. It works great and is very fast to set up.
The results I got from the Kadet Nero are amazing. I sharpened several blades and every one was very sharp after using the 1000 grit diamond stone. I was even able to sharpen a small marking knife by using a single blade clamp. Both the Blitz and the Kadet Nero are awesome sharpeners, but if I were to choose a favorite, it would be the Kadet Nero. I really like the black anodized finish, the use of thumbscrews on most of the adjustments, the thickness compensator adjustment, and the overall larger size. I highly recommend checking out the Kadet Nero if you are in the market for a truly Professional Grade knife sharpener.
