New Leather Spur Straps

Its time for some more leatherwork. I picked up a new pair of spurs for my Daughter to try out. They’re a little different than her current pair so I thought they might work well for her. I first had to replace the rowel with the correct one for the horse she rides. After successfully completing that, it was time to break out the leather.

I decided on a different design than the last spur straps I made. I want these to be a one piece design as the construction is much simpler, and it doesn’t require any buckles. I drew up a pattern in Fusion 360 and was able to print it out on the 3D printer. After tracing the design onto the leather, I cut it out, sanded and burnished the edges, applied a dye that matches her boots, and sealed it up with some Tan Kote.

My Daughter requested some “bling” be added to the new straps. Since the customer is always right, I added a couple conchos and a row of shiny chrome spots to bring up the level of bling. After attaching the new straps to the spurs, this project is ready to be tested out. I think they look great and my Daughter was happy as well. Thats one more happy customer.
