Making a PVC Storage Rack for the Workshop

I don’t know about you, but my shop needs to be cleaned up. I work in a very small space, so it doesn’t take much to make a mess. As I’m cleaning it up, I’m finding several things that are proving difficult to store. Longer items like guitar binding, threaded rod, and other lengths of various thing tend to not have a home. They get leaned up against something, then I knock them over only to pick them back up and start the cycle all over. I need to find some way to store these items and keep them off the floor.

I scrounged up some pieces of PVC pipe and an offcut from a slab that I think I can assemble into something useful. I sliced up the offcut to make a couple T Brackets and drilled a series of holes using a hole saw, that the PVC can slide into. After adding a few mounting holes, I glued the T Bracket together. For my system, I cut the PVC into 3ft long pieces, and slid them into the holes in the bracket. This creates the storage system. You can simply mount these to the wall or wherever makes sense to you. In my case, I think I’ll mount these to the ceiling to get stuff out of the way.

This is a super simple way to create some very usable storage for you workshop. You can use whatever size PVC pipe works the best for you. Just make sure you can drill a hole that matches the outside diameter of the pipe. Make some sort of mounting bracket and you’re done. I hope this idea helps you out the next time you’re cleaning up your workshop.
