We all love getting out things organized. It makes our lives easier and more efficient. One thing I’ve been meaning to get organized are my Sanding Discs for the Random Orbit Sander. Finally after picking them up off the floor for the 100th time, I decided to fix this problem.

I grabbed a leftover piece of Lacewood, from the keepsake box I recently finished. (Heres a link if you havent seen that yet) I trimmed it down just a little on the table saw. Then I began the layout process. This was probably the trickiest part of the project. I wanted the end result to be evenly spaced so I took my time and made careful measurements. The holes in these sanding discs are 2.5″ on center, and the hole size is 3/8″. These measurements worked out great for me.

After the layout, and drilling the holes for the dowels, I flipped the piece over and drilled a couple small recesses for some rare earth magnets. I wanted to use magnets to add to the versatility of this piece. I can move it around as needed. I think this will help a lot. I then glued the magnets in place using some Starbond Adhesives, Thick CA Glue. (here’s an afilliate link to get your own starbond CA Glue) After a little sanding, it was time to glue in the dowels.

The dowels are just some 3/8″ Hardwood dowels I had in the shop. A little glue on the end is all thats needed, before applying a couple of coats of wipe on polyurethane. This project is done.

I really like how this simple project turned out. It makes a huge difference in my little shop. Sometimes the small projects can be a big win in your workspace, and I think this is one of those big wins.
