My Vehicle is a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. It has the 4.2L, Inline 6 cylinder engine. Recently, I started hearing some new noises from under the hood. These noises were not supposed to be there. Upon further investigation, I discovered a fair amount of play in the bearings of the water pump. I could also see what looked to be weeping antifreeze near the back of the pump. These are both good signs that the pump is going bad. I knew I had to change it out before the water pump completely quits, and I’m left on the side of the road.
There are several different methods for getting the job done. All of them require you to remove the Fan Clutch, Serpentine Belt, and Pulley. One method even requires you to remove the upper section of the core support. I did not choose this method. The method I decided to try seemed like it would be the quickest, at least I hoped it was. I set aside an entire afternoon to tackle this job. I think if you give yourself 3 hours or so, you’ll be able to get it done.

This process is very similar if not identical on the Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, and Oldsmobile Bravada with the 4.2 liter engine.
