Building a Guitar Effects Looper Pedal

If you’re a musician that uses lots of effects pedals, I’m sure you will have come across this situation. You have at least one combination of pedals that you really like the sound of, the problem is that in order to access them, you have to “tap dance” them all at once. If there was only a way you could select the whole array of them together. If you have a looper pedal like we’re making here, you could select all the pedals in one effects loop together. Depending on your setup, this pedal could be a real life saver.

There’s not a whole lot to this project. The biggest part is figuring out where you want to drill all the holes for the switches and jacks. I took my time with this. Mainly because I selected a box that was just barely large enough to house the components. I needed to lay them out just right so they would fit. After drilling all the holes, I used my homemade buffer to polish the aluminum enclosure to a nice shine. Then it was time to wire it up.

In order to get it wired, I needed a good wiring diagram. I found one from Beavis Audio Research. It was super simple to follow and worked great. Here’s a link to their page if you’d like to try it out. It seems they have a ton of other projects there as well.

I really took my time with the wiring. I started with the power circuit first. After that tested OK, I moved on to wiring the jacks and footswitch. When I got the last wire soldered, I discovered that I overheated the lug of the footswitch and had to replace it. That was unfortunate but I got it replaced fairly quick. Now its time to test the pedal out.

I connected it to a couple of pedals, and a small amp. It works perfect. Just like a selectable effects loop on an amp, you can select this with the tap of your foot. I’m happy to have this new pedal. It will come in so handy for my pedal board setup. Check out the build video below. Thanks for stopping by.
