Carve a Guitar Neck with your Router | Super Fast with this Jig

I’ve seen these jigs around for quite a while and contemplated building one for quite some time. I always felt that there were some aspects that I didn’t understand and so I never did. I got really excited when my buddy Jayszun over at Temple Guitars, created his own version and started selling personalized plans for it. I was quick to buy the plans from him and its time to get the jig together.

This jig is awesome, but does require some careful attention in order to get everything in the right spot. If you measure 437 times before cutting and drilling, you’ll be just fine. One of the hardest things for me to understand was the relationship to the shape of the cams and the shape of the guitar neck. Its really pretty simple. The cams are exactly the same profile as you want on your neck, its just blown up. Basically the top of the cam needs to be the profile you want. Its worth making an extra set of cams so you can play around with the shapes and see how changes on the cam, relate to the neck.

If you want to get your own set of plans, get a hold of Temple Guitars. Here are a few different ways to get in touch.

Jayszun also has some great youtube videos on his YouTube Channel. Here is the one where he made his router jig.

Here’s my version of this jig. I did make a few small changes that I think will make this more versatile. One change I made was to make the cams easier to change out. This way, I can make several different sets and swap them out for different profiles. I think that will come in handy. This would be a cool opportunity to 3D Print the cams as well.

Thanks for checking this out. Its a sweet jig, and I’m glad to finally have made one. Don’t forget to hit up Temple Guitars as well.

(DISCLAIMER: this project, video, or anything else is in no way sponsored by Temple Guitars. The only compensation recieved was to Temple Guitars when I bought his plans. I believe this jig can be useful to many people and want to help spread the word. I like to support awesome musicians and builders where I can)
