I’ve been looking at ways to increase security around my shop and home. One of the best ways I know of is to set up security cameras. They are a great way to keep an eye on things and have recorded video if there’s ever an issue. Reolink recently reached out to me and offered to send over one of their camera systems. Now I live in a very old home and it would be a ton of work to install a hardwired security system. I know that whatever security cameras I decide to try need to be connected through WiFi. After explaining this to the team at Reolink, they decided to send over the Argus 3 4MP camera with a solar panel to keep it charged up.
The Argus 3 is a WiFi only camera. It has a 4 megapixel camera and records in 2K resolution. It charges through USB so by using the solar panel, I won’t have to take it down periodically to charge it up. Thats going to be great. Since I don’t yet know the ideal location for the camera, I decided to build a simple bracket that I could attach both the camera and solar panel to. This would allow me to move it around very easily as I test out different locations. Once I find the location I like, I can secure it with some screws.
In testing out this camera, I found the video quality to be quite good. There’s only a little bit of lag when viewing the live feed on the PC as well as the Mobile App. There are several neat features you can access through these apps such as configuring notifications, setting times the camera is active, 2 way talk, and a customizable siren. All pretty neat stuff I think.
Be sure to watch the entire video as I do a quick unboxing, and video test. See if you can spot the suspicious character in the video. I’d like to thank Reolink for sending this camera system over for me to test. Its nice knowing that the shop is just a little bit more secure now.
