My Homemade Marking Gauge

In my efforts to make more accurate cuts while working on guitars, and other projects, I decided I could use a marking gauge. A Marking gauge is a simple tool that consists of a fence and an adjustable beam, with a cutter of some type on the end. It scores the wood where you would normally run a pencil line. It gives a nice crisp line you can follow for your layouts.
I used some scraps of maple for the fence, and some what I believe is Canary Wood, for the beam. For the knife, I used an old jigsaw blade that I cut down to just the right size. The particular blade I used, already has a hole in the end, so I didn’t have to worry about trying to drill a screw hole in the hard steel. I finished the gauge with Danish Oil.
The entire project didn’t take too long to make and I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it. You can check out the build video below.
