I have a lot of guitar gig bags around the house. Since I only use these when transporting guitars, most of the time they just sit around in a heap in the corner of the house. I needed to get this cleaned up.
After kicking around several options for hanging them, I decided on a French Cleat system to hang them on a wall. This system will allow me to adjust the spacing of the hooks, or in my case pegs, to accommodate different styles and sizes of bags.
A French Cleat utilizes 2 pieces of wood cut at a 45 degree angle. They interlock to provide secure attachment to the wall. They are not fixed in place and can be slid around to adjust the position.
I used some beetle kill pine, that I got from a pallet, to make my rack. I cut several different sizes of wood to make the hooks different heights. I used some shaker pegs, that I got from my Grandpa, to hang the bags. I finished the whole thing with some wipe on poly.
This system worked out great. You could use it for a coat rack, a hat rack, or any other thing that you may need to adjust the placement of the pegs. Check out the built video below.
