One thing that always seems to happen at my house is that we sit down for dinner, start eating and realize we don’t have napkins or paper towels. Then someone has to get up and grab some so we can continue eating. Its not a huge deal, but it is an inconvenience none the less. I’d rather not do it. Enter this project.
I decided I’d make some paper towel holders that could sit on the table. I started out with a chunk of leftover workbench top that was intended for something else at one time. Trimmed it down and matched the router profile that was already on it. A quick sanding and it was ready for the finish. I wanted to do something different with the finish. For me, that is how I learn, I try things. They either work out or they don’t/ I grabbed my blowtorch and began burning the wood in random areas. Some more than others. After a proper charring, some dark stain and Danish oil topped it off.
After the oil had dried I attached some 3/4″ pipe fittings to hold the paper towels and the holders were complete. If you’d like to see the video, check it out below.
It was a simple project, but it turned out exactly like the idea I had in my head. I’m always happy when that happens.
