Making Some Cutting Boards

Have you ever found yourself needing some gifts for one reason or another? Cutting Boards make great gifts, and are a cool project that doesn’t take too long to make.
After gathering some boards around the shop, I decided to see how quickly I could put together a few cutting boards. I started out by jointing one edge of each board. Then I ripped them down to various widths to make up the desired patterns. Next, It was on to the glue. After using a lot of Titebond 2 and clamping each one up, I scraped off the excess glue and ran each board through my drum sander. The drum sander is great for this step as long as you don’t try yo use it like a planer. If you take off small amounts of material, they work awesome. After Sanding everything flat and smooth, I beveled the edge using a chamfering bit in my router. Then it was time to finish the boards. I just used simple Mineral Oil. Mineral Oil is available at almost every drug store and department store. Its easy to apply and to maintain, so it makes a great choice on a gift item. The person receiving the board won’t have to search all over to find some kind of specialty finish.
Overall, I love how these boards turned out. I recommend making a few of these. Its a great project.
